Sallie Elizabeth Whitfield, Adair Co., KY native (1928-2013)

She was a member of one of Adair County's most distinguished families. A native of Columbia, KY, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Alene Lowe. She was a graduate of Columbia High School (1946), Lindsey Wilson College (1948), and Bowling Green Business University (1950), and, in 2002, was honored with a doctorate degree from Lindsey Wilson College. She was a steadfast friend to Lindsey Wilson College where she served for over 30 years as a member of the schools board of trustees. Her husband, Kenneth Whitfield, survives. Her sister, Mary Richey Bennett, is among the many Adair County, KY relatives she leaves.

Elizabeth Lowe Whitfield, 85, of Bowling Green Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013. Mrs. Whitfield was the daughter of the late John D. Lowe Jr. and Aileen Richey Lowe.

Visitation will be on Saturday December 14 , 2013 from 8:30am to 10:00amCT, at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, 901 Fairview Avenue, Bowling Green, KY. Memorial services for Mrs. Whitfield will be on Saturday at 10amCT at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview Avenue, Bowling Green, KY.



Sallie Elizabeth Whitfield, Adair Co., KY native (1928-2013)

She was born Saturday, August 4, 1928, in Columbia, Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late John and Alene Lowe. She died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 3 days.

She was preceded in death by her Brother, John D. Lowe III, and her sister, Nancy Sims.

She received an associate of arts degree from the Lindsey-Wilson College in 1948, and graduated from Bowling Green's Business University in 1950 with a bachelors degree. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church.

On May of 2002 Mrs. Whitfield was honored with a doctorate degree from Lindsey-Wilson College. She also served on the board of trustees for the college for over thirty years.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Whitfield, and the following:
  • Sister: Mary Richey Bennett

  • Three nieces

  • Two nephews

  • And several great nieces and nephews.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Lindsey-Wilson College Nursing Program, 210 Lindsey Wilson St. Columbia, KY 42728, and/or to State Street United Methodist Church, P.O Box 3340 Bowling Green, KY 42102.
