SIOUX CITY, IA - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team suffered a five-set loss at the hands of Indiana Wesleyan University in their second match of pool play at the NAIA National Championship Thursday night, December 5, 2013.

Lindsey Wilson falls to 0-2 in pool play after suffering a 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 25-19, 13-15) loss for the second night in a row.

The Blue Raiders opened set one on an 8-3 run, but Indiana Wesleyan would battle back and eventually tie the set at 13. A kill by Sarah Anderson would jumpstart a 6-2 run for Lindsey Wilson and give them a 19-15 lead. Back-to-back kills by Nadelina Nesheva would increase the lead and a kill by Anderson would finish off the set 25-22 in favor of the Blue Raiders.

Set two saw the Wildcats get off to a 4-1 start before Lindsey Wilson tied the set at 6-6 on a kill by Kailey Moorhead, and take a 7-6 lead on a service ace by Jesse Collins. The Blue Raiders and Wildcats would exchange the next several points with neither team gaining more than a one-point advantage until Lindsey Wilson took a 16-14 lead. The teams would continue to exchange leads until the match became tied at 21. The Wildcats went on a 4-0 run to close out the set 25-21 and even the match 1-1.

Set three began with the teams continuing to exchange points and leads until the match was tied 7-7. The Wildcats would use a 6-2 run to give them a 13-9 advantage. The Blue Raiders were unable to cut the lead any closer than three points the rest of the set as Indiana Wesleyan took set three 25-19.

Set four would see the same trend as both teams exchanged points and leads until the Blue Raiders held an 8-6 advantage. That lead would vanish quickly as the match became tied 11-11. The Wildcats went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-11 lead, but the Blue Raiders would continue to fight and retook the lead at 17-16 after two kills by Daryna Liutikova. Lindsey Wilson would go on an 8-3 run to close out the set and tie the match at two sets apiece.

The fifth set saw the Wildcats take a 2-0 lead with the Blue Raiders answering right back to tie it at two. Lindsey Wilson held a 7-4 lead after a Wildcat attack error, but Indiana Wesleyan would fight back and tie the match at eight. The Wildcats would retake the lead with a 3-0 run late in the set to give them a 14-11 advantage. Kills by Mattie Tigges and Anderson would cut the lead to 14-13, but a tipped ball by the Wildcats landed between two diving Blue Raiders to give Indiana Wesleyan the set and the match.

With the loss, Lindsey Wilson will not advance past pool play at the NAIA National Championship. With two wins already, Biola will advance out of Pool C along with the winner of the Dordt-Indiana Wesleyan match Thursday night.

The Blue Raiders were led by Nesheva with 20 kills on the night followed by Anderson with 16 and Moorhead with 13. Alexa Just recorded 62 assists on the night while Kirsten King had 25 digs. Emily Meeks led the team with three total blocks.

The Wildcats were led by Rae Brandes with 21 kills in the match followed by Christiana Tavo with 17 and Sarah Collicott with 13.
