COLUMBIA, KY - Families can enjoy the Christmas season December 7, 2013 at the third-annual Lindsey Wilson College Christmas Carnival at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center. The event is free and open to the public. The LWC Christmas Carnival is part of the Christmas in Columbia "Storybook Weekend," Friday-Sunday, December 6-8, 2013.

"It should be a great event. I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm excited for it," said LWC Director of Campus Recreation Joel Peterson, who is coordinating the Christmas Carnival.

Peterson said this year's Christmas Carnival is going to "keep a lot of the traditional stuff ... but then we're also including a lot of new things."

Activities that will return include ornament-making, cookie-making, face-painting, inflatables and a storybook village. New activities will include some of LWC's 110 international students from 40 countries, who will discuss how Christmas is celebrated in their native land.

Because the North Pole's reindeer union prohibits Christmas work before December 21, Santa Claus will arrive by firetruck at 1:30pmCT; complimentary pictures will be taken of children visiting with Santa Claus.

Assisting Peterson with this year's festival are LWC students in the Recreation, Tourism & Sport Management "Event Management" class.

"It's been great to have them involved with the planning, organization and execution of the carnival because they have gained a lot of valuable experience they can put on their resume," Peterson said. - Duane Bonifer
