Commentary/Traffic: No more bodies laid out on Square

Most drivers are courteous, but community should not tolerate dangers posed to pedestrians downtown

By Billy Joe Fudge

Yes, the majority of drivers are courteous. However, the traffic flow onto, around and off the Downtown Square needs to be calmed before someone else is injured or killed. I personally don't want to see anymore bodies laid out on the Square.

Campbellsville Street tends to be a little better but just stand on the street corner on either Jamestown Street or Burkesville Street and watch the speed of vehicles approaching the Square and crossing crosswalks and I think you will quickly see that there is a speeding problem.

Hey, I'm a "no more government than necessary" guy and I know life has risks but we should take any practical and reasonable steps to reduce or eliminate unnecessary ones.
