She was a secretary with the Department of Human Resources and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She was a native of Russell County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She the daughter of the late Elmer & Etta Smith Wade. She leaves 10 direct living descendants spanning three generations.

Marie Wade Owens, 93, of Russell Springs, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

Funeral services for Marie Wade Owens will be 1pmCT, Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY with Bro. Steve Bennett officiating. Friends may call after 5pmCT, Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.


Pallbearers: Perry Walters, James Rixon, Jason Raney, Dylan Raney, Matthew Lunsford, and Micah Lunsford.

She was born Sunday, May 9, 1920 in Russell County, KY, She wasa the daughter of the late Elmer & Etta Smith Wade. She died Sunday, November 10, 2013, in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 1 day.

She was a secretary with the Department of Human Resources and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Owens, 3 brothers, Gilbert, Geoffrey, & James Wade and a sister, Hazel Wade. Survivors include the following:
  • Two children: Rodney (Karen) Owens, Russell Springs, KY; and Christie (Heston) Reeder, Charlestown, IN

  • Four grandchildren: Rebecca (Perry) Walters, Liberty, KY; Robin (James) Rixon, Russell Springs, KY; Emily (Jason) Raney, Charlestown, IN; and Adam Reeder, Charlestown, IN

  • Four great grandchildren: Kole Rixon, Tenley Rixon, Dylan Raney, and Madelyn Raney
