Ann Burton Murphy: Agrees with Mary Keltner 100%

The need is great. People will be hurt by Food Stamp cuts. Praise Assembly Food Pantry had 107 families come by for help last week. Unfortunately, some had to be turned away because of lack of stock. Meat is especially needed, writer says.

Commentary

I agree with Mary Keltner 100%.

My Church, Praise Assembly of God, has a food pantry, in which I help, at Praise Assembly Hope Center Food Pantry, 310 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY.

Last week, we had 107 families come to us for food. With SNAP benefits being cut, the first of November, we will be seeing many more new ones come in.

We buy our food, from Feeding America, but it is limited to how much we can buy and don't always get what we order. We pay for it by the pound. We can not buy meat from them. We can only order once a month.

Walmart, donates, too, when they have it, but there are times when we have to turn people away, because we run out of food. It's very sad, when we have to do this, especially if they have children.

We have people come in and ask for diapers and baby formula, which we don't have. We have people in our church, that have donated soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and other necessities. We have a box, in the front, where these items can be donated.

Our local Food Pantries, need the public's help, especially with meat.

Anyone wanting to help our pantry, and any others, it will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
