From Campbellsville Police Department

The Campbellsville Police Department today (Tuesday October 29, 2013) received a report of a suspicious person at the Citizens Bank and Trust Company located on KY 210.

At approximately 3:10pmET, personnel at the Citizens Bank and Trust Branch located at KY 210 and Nancy Cox Drive contacted Campbellsville Police to report a suspicious person. According to statements from bank employees, the male suspect entered the bank and spoke briefly with an employee. The suspect exhibited behaviors which caused concern of suspicion.

Follow-up investigation by Campbellsville Police has determined the actions by Mr. Gentry while at the Citizens Bank & Trust Branch amount to an Attempted Robbery. Statements by bank employees and review of the bank surveillance footage substantiate Gentry entered the bank at approximately 2:40pmCT and asked to speak with the loan officer. Gentry waited until the officer was available, and then met with that employee. During the conversation with the bank loan officer, Gentry asked for a sum of money ("a loan"). Gentry is reported to have opened his coat to reveal a handgun in his waistband to the bank loan officer. After further conversation, Gentry stated this was a "hold-up". The bank employee denied his request stating there weren't any significant funds on the premises. Gentry then opened his coat a second time revealing the handgun and stated he'd be back. Gentry exited the bank at approximately 3:10pmCT.

The bank made notification to CPD after Gentry's exit. Officer Scotty Perian observed a vehicle matching the description provided by the bank. Officer Perian initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of KY 210 and KY 55. Officer Perian approached the vehicle and the driver sped off. Officer Perian pursued the vehicle south on KY 55. Additional Campbellsville Police units assisted. The driver of the truck ran off KY 55 and struck a parked vehicle. Officers from the Taylor County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.

The operator of the truck is identified as Eugene Earl Gentry; w/m; age 63; address 158 Swindle Road; Lafayette, TN. Mr. Gentry was injured in the collision and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The matter is still under investigation with the facts of the case being presented to the Taylor County Grand Jury at their next available session. Charges will be sought for the following offenses; Fleeing and Evading Police 1st degree (Class - D Felony); Attempted Robbery 1stforthcoming. degree (Class - B Felony). Additional charges may be forthcoming.
