CU soccer/men ranked in NAIA Top 25 for 1st time ever

Tigers only loss this season was to No. 1 ranked Lindsey Wilson College

By Chris Megginson
News from Campbellsville University

KASNAS CITY, MO - The long wait is over, but the journey is far from over for Campbellsville University men's soccer. The Tigers are ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll for the first time in its 22 seasons as a varsity program, the national office announced Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

CU is ranked No. 23 after posting a 1-1 draw against No. 2 University of Rio Grande on Homecoming, October 5, 2013. The Tigers are now 10-1-1 and 3-1-1 in Mid-South Conference action. Their only loss is to No. 1 Lindsey Wilson College, 1-0, and the tie to now No. 3 Rio.

"The guys wanted it and they deserve it. It's tough, week after week, when guys work really hard and they see other teams they've played ranked in the Top 10 that they're on level with," said CU head coach Adam Preston. "It puts a bullseye on our back, and we're prepared for that."

CU is one of three teams new to the rankings this week after receiving votes or not being ranked last week. Corban (OR) moves into the poll at No. 24 and Midland (NE) is No. 25. LWC received 18 of the 21 first-place votes, with No. 2 Belhaven picking up the other three. Oklahoma Wesleyan and Ashford (Iowa) round out the Top 5.

Campbellsville's national ranking will play part in their modified ratings percentage index (MRPI), which is used to select the at-large qualifying teams and seed all 32 teams for the NAIA National Championship. CU was rated No. 51 of 194 teams in the last MRPI, released September 25, 2013. The next rating is scheduled for release on October 23 with the final index coming out November 17.

Campbellsville has five regular season games remaining, four against Mid-South Conference opponents. Chris Megginson, Campbellsville University
