He was retired Information Security Management for the Department of Defense, was currently a Defense Contractor, a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Navy, a Mason in Arlington, Virginia, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the V.F.W.

'Mr. Gary Lee Akin,66, of Virginia, departed this life on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the East Cooper Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

The funeral services for Mr. Gary Lee Akin will be conducted at 1pmCT/2pmET, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 525 Temperance Road, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation is requested from 2pm-7pmCT/3pm-8pmET, Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, and from 7amCT/8amET, until 12:30pmCT/1:30pmET, Wednesday at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: Matt Knieriem, Randy Shirley, Lawrence Armstrong, Taylor Akin Todd Akin and Robert Cherny.

Mr. Gary Lee Akin, Green Co., KY (1946-2013)

Mr. Gary Lee Akin of Virginia, son of the late James Booker Akin and Mary Elizabeth Sullivan Akin, was born Friday, December 13, 1946 in Green County, KY, and departed this life on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the East Cooper Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Charleston County, SC. He was 66 years, 9 months, and 20 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ. He was retired Information Security Management for the Department of Defense, was currently a Defense Contractor, a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Navy, a Mason in Arlington, Virginia, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the V.F.W.

Mr. Akin is survived by his wife: Rose Marie Rolando Akin of Virginia, having united in marriage on November 26, 2011. Other survivors include:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Phillip Todd and Coletta Akin of Hodgenville, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Ruthie Lynn Akin, Sophia Marie Akin, and James Arthur Akin all of Hodgenville, KY

  • Three brothers and sisters-in-law: James Dale and Sandra Akin of Bardstown, KY; William Wade and Alberta Akin of Murray, KY; and Douglas Taylor and Sherry Akin of Magnolia, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and many friends.
