Single vehicle crash in Russell Co., KY claims life of 13 year old Driver loses control of 2001 Ford in curve on KY 1680 due, authorities believe due to wet road conditions. Victim was passenger in vehicle. Driver taken to Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY, treated and released. By TFC Billy Gregory, Public Affairs Officer News from Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY JAMESTOWN, KY - Trooper Adam Likins is investigating a collision that occurred Wedneday, September 11, 2013, at approximately 3pmCT, 6.5 miles south of Jamestown on KY 1680. 18-year-old Jesus Martinez was traveling south on KY 1680, operating a 2001 Ford when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve due to wet conditions. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. A passenger, 13-year-old Matthew Merideth of Jamestown, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Russell County Coroner. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Martinez was transported to the Russell County Hospital where he was treated and released. Trooper Likins was assisted at the scene by the Jamestown Fire Department, Russell County EMS and the Russell County Sheriff's Department. - TFC BILLY R.
