Update: 10:30amCT on I-65 closure at MP 56 in Hart County

10:30amCT/ Update: Northbound Interstate 65 Closed Due To Accident At Mile Point 56
Northbound I-65 CLOSED due to accident - MP 56 in Hart Co., KY

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (August 26, 2013) - Northbound Interstate 65 remains closed at Mile Point 56 in Hart County. A hazardous materials crew is removing cargo from the semi which crashed around 7amCT. Closure is expected to last another 8 hours as cleanup continues.

Detour information is amended from the previous release. Northbound traffic is now being routed off at Cave City (Exit 53) onto KY 90 east, to US 31W north, to KY 70 east, to US 31E north, to KY 61 (Lincoln Parkway) north and rejoin I65 in Elizabethtown (Exit 91).

Motorists from I-65 are urged to follow the detour route. GPS units may indicate and suggest other routes, however, many of these roads are congested with local traffic and do not easily accommodate large vehicles and high volumes.

For motorists traveling through to Elizabethtown, motorists may also wish to exit I65 in Bowling Green via the William Natcher Parkway north to Western Kentucky Parkway east and rejoin I65 in Elizabethtown.

Updates will be sent as removal and cleanup progresses. - Chris Jessie
