Northbound I-65 CLOSED due to accident - MP 56 in Hart Co., KY

TRAVEL ADVISORY Update at 8:06amCT
Earlier story: Battery Truck overturned: I65 NB MP 56 In Hart County, KY

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (August 26, 2013) - Northbound Interstate 65 is now closed at Mile Point 56 in Hart County. A semi crash occurred earlier, initially reducing the interstate to one lane. The vehicle's cargo includes used batteries.

Due to safety concerns, northbound traffic is now being detoured off of I65 at Cave City (Exit 53), onto KY 70 east, to US 31W north, to KY 218 west and rejoin the interstate at Horse Cave (Exit 58).

Closure is expected to last 4-5 hours as the cargo is unloaded and the semi removed. Southbound traffic is not affected at this time.

Motorists from I65 are urged to follow the US 31W detour route. GPS units may indicate and suggest other routes, however many roads which connect with US 31W will likely be congested as local traffic attempts to navigate around detour traffic.

Updates will be sent as removal and cleanup progresses. Chris Jessie
