ACHS grad from New Hampshire rekindles friendship with classmate after 41 years

I just want Columbia Magazine its readers, residents of Columbia and Adair County to know that, in my opinion, Charles Grimsley is a great asset to all those concerned in the community and that I am proud to have had him as a classmate and for what he does for the town government. - BJ HAGY

I recently took a road trip from New Hampshire down to Columbia and Adair County with my 26 year old son, Robert. It had been many years since we had visited. I wanted my son to see where I'd attended school (ACHS & Knifley Grade Center) and where I'd grown up in my early years.

When we got into Columbia we walked around the square and came by Grimsley's Jewelry store. I told my son that I had gone to school with Charles but hadn't seen him since 1972.

I hesitated on going into the store because I didn't want to interrupt him if he was busy with customers. At the last second in passing by I decided to go in anyway, if nothing more than to just say hi.

It was a great decision. Charles broke-out our old high school yearbook and we went through it and he caught me up on many of our old classmates, who was doing what and where, and who all who had died already. I was quite surprise at how many had passed on already.

Before we left I mentioned the Honor Wall for World War II veterans that used to hang in the courthouse. I asked if it was still there. Charles said it was still there but that the courthouse wasn't open to the general public at this time. I mentioned my son that Grandfather George Frank Hagy had his name on there and it would be nice if we could see it. Charles immediately stated that he acutally had a key and said he'd be happy to show us the Honor Wall.

Hang on to Charles as long as you can.

Regards,

--BJ Hagy
