Mr. Walter Richard Groce, Cumberland Co. KY (1944-2013)

Mr. Walter Richard Groce, 68, of Tompkinsville, formerly of Cumberland County passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home. He was born August 5, 1944 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Walter H. Groce and Ruby Holman Groce.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 20 at 3pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, with burial following in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Cumberland County. Visitation was after 4pm on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville and after 9amCT on Saturday at Norris-New Funeral H me in Burkesville. Masonic services were conducted Friday at 7:30pmCT, at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.



Mr. Walter Richard Groce, Cumberland Co. KY (1944-2013)

He was the son of the late Walter H. Groce and the late Ruby Holman Groce. He was born August 5, 1944 in Cumberland County, KY. He died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 13 days.

He was an embalmer and funeral director for Strode Funeral home for 23 years. He was a member of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge #413, also member and past master of Tompkinsville Lodge #715, Burkesville Chapter #380 OES and member and former president of Tompkinsville Lions Club.

He was united in marriage October 1975 to Sally Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Groce of Tompkinsville, KY, and the following:
  • One son: Brian Claywell of Bowling Green, KY

  • One sister: Rachel Phelps of Burkesville, KY

  • One brother: Ralph Groce of Burkesville, KY

  • One grandchild: Savannah Claywell of Bowling Green, KY

  • One nephew: John Phelps, Jr. of Burkesville, KY

  • One niece: Ginger Garmon of Burkesville, KY

  • Two great nephews and 4 great nieces

  • And special friend: Billy Yeubank of Tompkinsville. Memorials are suggested to the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Send a condolence to the family of Mr. Walter Richard Groce.
