Sunflowers on ACHS campus - Yellow as far as eye can see

2013-07-21 - Adair County School Campus, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne, Adair Co. School District photo. Everybody loves the new crops which have replaced the tobacco in the FFA fields on the Adair County School District Campus. Not only do they catch the eye of most humans the critters like them too! This bumble bee was in the middle of a feast! - Shamarie Claiborne, Adair County School District
The scene is just one of the sights which make a snail slow drive or walk through the campus a joy, and a reminder that school starts August 14, 2013 for students. That's just 24 days from today.

Hard at work on new school year

2013-07-22 - Booster Field, 224 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne, Adair Co. School District photo. I don’t know who is more dedicated - the ADAIR band or Danny Foster of the Adair County School Systems Maintenance Department, all of whom are working in the rain to make Adair County School System look good! Dany is driving the tractor, and, lower right, a few of the ADAIR Band at Summer Camp on Booster Field. In the band area, in no particular order , are band kids Jonathan Burbridge, Grant Cockerham, Jordan Pollard, Kelly Jones, and Instructors Jared Giles and Assistant Director Jonathon Holmes. It's a reminder of 1) Something is going on on campus almost every day of the year, and 2) the 2013-14 School Year for students' Countdown is: 23 days from today to Wednesday, August 14, 2013!. - Shamarie Claiborne Clicking ReadMore accesses Open House Calendar of Events leading up to First Day.

What a Difference a Day Made: A the new school year approaches, with students' first day of class coming in just 20 days, everyday the campus takes on a changed look. The photo above shows Booster Field after the old UK/Stoll Field to Russell County High to Booster Field bleachers were totally removed, leaving only "the crow's nest" - what we Band Parents call the tower. It will be renovated and painted, and new bleachers are being installed which will accommodate 570 home fans and new portable bleachers will be installed on the visitor's side. The work will be completed shortly after the school opening. Clicking ReadMore accesesses the full schedule of pre-opening events and opening day schedule.

Countdown to School Start Adair County: 15 days

2013-07-30 - ACES, 870 Indian DR, Columbia, Ky - Photo CM staff photo. A little paint made a huge difference. When lighter blue numerals were affixed to Adair County Elementary School, they were hard to see from the road. Now, after a coat of paint, the address is easily seen from Indian Drive and the Adair Veterans Memorial Highway - the bypass. It's part of the Adair County Board of Education's program for student safety - even substitute emergency responders can more easily find the building. And costly behind the scenes training of dispatchers will be slightly reduced. Though that would be a direct cost to the school board, it is part of a growing trend in Adair County for governmental units to try to save each other unnecessary expense. Clicking ReadMore accesses the pre-opening and First Day - Wednesday, August 14, 2013 - schedules for the Adair County School District. - CM
