Comment: Applauds smokefree policy; but senses overreach

Jon Halsey writes:

I applaud the policy - or most of it anyway.

However, there seems to be a bit of a overreach:
"The new policy applies to everyone, including school board employees and parents, and prohibits using or having tobacco products on campus or at school functions."
Short of bringing the TSA and their Peeping Tom machines on board, I fail to understand how they are going to enforce that part about parents not having a tin of Skoal or a pack of Mail Pouch in their jeans when they attend a Parent/Teacher conference.

If they don't intend to enforce that part of the policy then why have it in the first place?

I understand that they want to be able to address students who bring tobacco products on campus; but if that is the only aim, then edit the policy to say that.
