By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Affairs Officer

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Thursday, June 27, 2013) - Due to the media interest today in the search of a pond near the site of the Ofc. Jason Ellis murder, I feel it is appropriate to share the results.

We decided to conduct another search of the area utilizing a K-9 tracking dog from an outside entity.

At approximately 7:20amET, today, KSP along with the K-9 and its handler searched the area around exit 34 on the Bluegrass Parkway.

The K-9 that was utilized led investigators to the area around a large pond near the exit. Our investigators decided to request the assistance of the Louisville Metro Dive Squad to search the pond. The Dive Squad searched the pond for several hours and at approximately 5:15pmET they completed their search.

No items of evidentiary value were found. We were NOT searching for any particular item and had no credible tip that anything was in the pond. This was an investigative lead that investigators were able to check off in an attempt to narrow our investigation.

We did not expect any spectacular case breaking information to come out of today's events. However, as stated many times before we will leave no stone unturned and our investigation will continue until the killer is brought to justice.

Additionally, KSP would like to note that the property owners of the pond have been nothing but cooperative with the Kentucky State Police and in no way are associated or involved in Ofc. Ellis' murder. On the contrary, they have given KSP investigators free reign to conduct our investigation on any part of their property as needed. - MTPR NORMAN CHAFFINS
