Terry Akin, Adair County, KY (1955-2013)

His own personal warmth and infectious smile was reflected in the extraordinary love the people of Adair County had for him. He was a man of principal who could advocate deeply held political positions and principles of his Christian faith without offense to those who might differ. His conversations on issues were models of civil discourse. Still, he will be remembered for much more than his friendliness, but also for the well deserved respect he earned through the dedication and passion he had for his chosen field, the many people influenced to follow in his footsteps, and for the many lives he helped save over the years. He had recently retired as Director of the Adair County Ambulunce Service, at the end of an illustrious 37 years of service. In a large sense, his great legacy is a highly trained Adair County EMS service largely unequalled - anywhere, whether in big cities or small communities such as his beloved Adair County . A consummate volunteer, he served Adair County in many other ways, as well. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a member of a highly regarded, close knit Adair County family. His wife, Luanna Keltner survives. He leaves two direct living descendants.
