CPD Officers Brockman and Murphy pay tribute to fallen hero Jason Ellis

'We stopped at different locations in Nelson County and residents opened their arms and came out of their way to thank us as well as other officers who had made the journey with food, handshakes, hugs, and a big thank you,' Ofc. Brockman writes. The sad occasion brought back memories of how our community pulled together two years ago, with the tragic loss of Assistant Fire Chief Charles Sparks.

On 05-29-2013 Sgt. Jr. Murphy and I attended visitation services at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown, KY, for Officer Jason Ellis of Bardstown Police Department, who was ambushed and killed on May 25, 2013 around 3amCT.

The whole city had united to pay their respects to this fallen hero. The line was without end as the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard as well as many other city and county honor guards stood flawless beside the casket, never leaving Ofc. Ellis's side.

We stopped at different locations in Nelson County and residents opened their arms and came out of their way to thank us as well as other officers who had made the journey with food, handshakes, hugs, and a big thank you.

It was a lot like how our community pulled together when we lost one of our own, Assistant City Fire Chief Charles Sparks in 2011.

. We were able to meet Chief McCubbin of Bardstown Police and convey our sympathy to all who were involved and that City of Columbia and Adair County stood with them.

As we met with other officers from all over the Commonwealth and surrounding states it was a somber reminder of the price that is paid to often by public servants and our brave soldiers of the United States Military.

Please remember Ofc . Ellis's family and the community of Bardstown as they endure this tragic event. From Columbia Police Department, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, Jason Cross, Chief
