Von Flatt Price: Happy memories with the Barnes family

What a wonderful couple - Charles and Barbara Barnes. My parents, Otha & Fannie Flatt, used to live next door on Guardian Street and they were such great neighbors.

I will remember Charles Barnes as always having a big smile.

And I remember he and my dad sitting in the backyard telling tales to each other. My mom made the best fried dry apple pies ever and would share with them and Charles would tell how much he loved her pies.

Thinking back, when my parents had the concession stands at the county fair, we always had them open on Saturday afternoon before the fair would start, and Charles Barnes was always one of their first customers there. He would tell my dad that he could smell the country ham cooking all the way to his house.

He was very involved with 4H when I was in high school as well. I am sure there will be lots of fond memories and lots of tales to be told at the birthday celebration at the Christian Church.

I would love to be at that gathering, but due to a prior commitment, I cannot make it.

I do wish them both good health and many more happy years together.
