Rotary radio auction raises thousands for scholarships Most of the over $7,000 raised will go toward scholarships to Lindsey Wilson College for Adair County High School students By George Kolbenschlag The Columbia Rotary Club's Radio Auction April 29-30 raised just over $7,000 in support of Rotary's local service projects. Most of the money will go towards scholarships to Lindsey Wilson College for Adair County High School students. The auction was made possible by the generous support of area businesses and individuals who donated the items auctioned. Some donated cash. More than 80 items were auctioned in the two-evening broadcast which was simulcast by both WAIN 93.5 FM and The WAVE, 92.7 FM radio stations. The bidders were also generous. In an obvious "vote" of support of both the Rotary club and ACHS students, several persons continued the bidding on items past their stated value. Columbia Rotary meets at 12pm noon CT the second and fourth Mondays each month at Lindsey Wilson's Cranmer Dining Center. On the rare occasions when the dining center is closed the club meets at local restaurants. Check Columbia Magazine for the most current information on meeting location. Rotary International's motto is "Service above self," and the local club is primarily a service organization. It is also a congenial, diversified group that has fun while serving the community. Those who want to learn more about the local Rotary club are welcome at meetings or can check the club's Web page at rotarycolumbia-adair.org. - George Kolbenschlag This story was posted on 2013-05-04 14:29:26
