Adventures underway at ACES Camp Safari

By Courtney Coomer
News from Adair County Elementary School - ACES

The adventures have begun at Camp Safari, Adair Elementary School's 21 Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program. The school recently received grant funding to implement before, after-school and summer programs that will provide extended learning and enrichment opportunities for students.

Camp Safari after-school activities started April 15, 2013 and will be available for three weeks.

Students have been spending their time learning about the solar system and Native Americans. Self esteem building activities have been offered to participating girls through a Girl Power class. Younger students have been participating in literacy activities. All students enjoy extra technology time with I Pads and physical fitness activities in the gym. Last week, students concentrated on Earth Day activities and learned about fishing and how to build snap circuits.

Camp Safari coordinator, Courtney Coomer is excited about the number of students that are participating. In addition to current after-school programs, Camp Safari will also offer a summer program in conjunction with Camp Casey 21CCLC, Family Resource Centers and the Adair County Migrant program. For more information about Camp Safari, contact Ms. Coomer at ACES at 270-384-0077. Courtney Coomer
