KINGSPORT, TN - Campbellsville University had to rally twice in late innings Saturday, but managed only one victory on day one of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament at Domtar Park.

The 25th ranked Lady Tigers scored three in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the University of Rio Grande, 5-4, in the first game. In the second game of the tournament, Campbellsville pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, 3-3, but fell to Cumberland University, 4-3, in the eighth.

Kristin Benton contributed to Campbellsville's first three runs of the day, driving in Emma Napier on a sac fly in the first inning of game one and then scored on an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth by Sara Paragon after drawing a leadoff walk to start the inning. After Rio Grande tied the game in the fifth and took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on two solo home runs, Benton hit a solo homer to start the sixth-inning rally.

Taylor Borders and Adrean Jordan capped the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a pair of unearned runs. Borders reached and scored on an error, while Jordan scored on a sac fly by Paragon.

Victoria Decker, the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year, recorded the win in relief. Kelsi Pardue started the game, retiring the first eight batters faced on strikeouts. She fanned 13 in the game.

In game two of the day, Campbellsville fell behind 3-0 early after three RBIs by Cumberland pitcher and designated player Allison Blackwood.

Borders hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to put the Lady Tigers on the board, 3-1. With one out, Brooke Boils singled in the bottom of the seventh, followed by a bunt single by Kacie Vincent, which landed on the third base bag. With two on, Emma Napier grounded out to advance the runners, and Shelby Ray drove them both in on a single to force extra innings, 3-3.

Boils and Vincent were both perfect from the plate in the game, going 3-for-3 and 2-for-2, respectively.

Decker, who went 7 1/3 in game two for Campbellsville, allowed a pair of one-out singles in the eighth to Cumberland before being pulled for Pardue. Pardue struck out the first batter faced, but gave up an RBI single to Emily Nicholson on a 1-2 count before getting another K to get out of the inning.
