She was the matriarch of a highly regarded Adair County, KY family. She leaves 5 direct and 5 step living descendants. She was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, a former secretary and homemaker.

Elva Downey Gabehart, 94, of Columbia, KY, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 1:20pmCT, at the Campbellsville Retirement Home in Campbellsville, KY.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 1:30pmCT/2:30pmET, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Neil Janes officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 5pmCT/6pmET, Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the funeral home.



Casket Bearers: Wally Burress, Wayne Roy, Kevin Roy, Timmy Judd, Ernie Rogers, and Gilbert Todd.


Elva Downey Gabehart, Adair Co., KY (1919-2013)

She was born February 28, 1919, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late U.L. and Ada Finn Rogers. She died Thursday, April 25, 2013, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 25 days.

She was married to Richard Downey who preceded her in death in 1961. She later married Horace Gabehart who preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers & five sisters.

She was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, a former secretary and homemaker. Survivors include:
  • One son: Larry (Celia) Downey of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Connie (Bobby) Burress of Columbia, KY

  • One step-daughter: Karen Roy of Richmond, KY

  • One brother: Haskel Rogers of Columbia, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Wally (Laura) Burress, Bryan Burress and Daphne (Timmy) Judd

  • One great-grandchild: Austin Burress

  • Two step grandchildren: Wayne Roy and Kevin (Michelle) Roy

  • Three step great-grandchildren: Ashley, Lindsey and Lauren Roy

  • Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
