Tri-County Car Club scholarship applicants sought $500 scholarship helps individuals who wish to pursue an auto-related career By Joan C. McKinney A $500 auto-related scholarship will be awarded each May by the Tri-County Car Club based in Campbellsville. The club has members from several counties. Those interested in the scholarship should send a letter of application no later than April 30 of each year to the Tri-County Car Club in care of Stan McKinney, 1007 Deer Park, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Applicants should include a transcript of their high school grades including their attendance records and a short statement as to why they wish to pursue an auto-related career. All applicants should also include a statement as to financial need. The application should include contact information including home address and home telephone number. Applicants should also include the name of their high school guidance counselor and contact information for that person. A committee consisting of members of the Tri-County Car Club will review the applications and select the scholarship recipient based on career objectives, financial need and school attendance record. Students interested in becoming mechanics, learning body work, upholstery or any career related to the auto industry are eligible. The scholarship will be paid directly to an auto-related school, not the recipient of the scholarship. Thus, applicants must also include the name of the school they plan to attend and the date they plan to begin their program of study. Because there were no applicants for the 2012 scholarship, the Tri-County Car Club decided to give the money last year to Campbellsville University for its scholarship fund. The first priority of the scholarship is to assist those planning to enter an auto-related career. However, if there are no applicants as there were for last year, the money will be given to the university's scholarship fund. Nicholas Courtwright was selected from four applicants in 2011 to receive the first $500 scholarship awarded by the Tri-County Car Club to someone pursing an auto-related career. Courtwright is enrolled at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. He is seeking a master's degree in mechanical engineering and hopes to some day design vehicles.
