Virginia Graves Shively, Taylor Co., KY (1916-2013)

She was the matriarch of a distinguished Taylor County, KY, family. She leaves three direct living descendants. She retired from teaching at Campbellsville Elementary School after 37 years. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers System, Taylor County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the David Allen Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution; a member of the Coterie Club and Taylor County Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband owned and operated Shively's Jewelers for many years.

Virginia Graves Shively, 96, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 8:52amET, Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Campbellsville.

The funeral service will be by Dr. James Jones, at 10amCT/11amET, Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbelllsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.



Pallbearers: Phil Allen Bertram, Dr. James A. Ewing, Michael Graham, Mike Hall, W.M. Hall, Sr., and Ron Rafferty.

Honorary pallbearers: Faith Sunday School Class at Campbellsville Baptist Church and Campbellsville Rotary Club.


Virginia Graves Shively, Taylor Co., KY (1916-2013)


Virginia Graves Shively was the daughter of the late W. Ernest Graves and Nelle Burdette Graves. She was born in Marion County, KY, Monday, April 24, 1916. She died at Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Campbellsville, KY at the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

She professed faith in Christ and was a life time member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church.

She retired from teaching at Campbellsville Elementary School after 37 years. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers System, Taylor County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the David Allen Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution; a member of the Coterie Club and Taylor County Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband owned and operated Shively's Jewelers for many years.

She united in marriage to Eugene B. "Zimmie" Shively June 11, 1940. He preceded her in death May 13, 1992.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Dr. Eugene H. Shively and wife, Susan, of Campbellsville, KY

  • One grand daughter and one grandson: Dr. Victoria Shively Graham and husband, Michael L. of Louisville, KY; and Alexander G. Shively and wife, Christina E. of Campbellsville, KY

  • One brother: James F. Graves and wife, Mary Jewell of Campbellsville, KY

  • one niece and namesake: Virginia Graves of Clarkesville, TN

  • And many other relatives and friends
The family requests expressions of sympathy be donations to the Virginia Shively Scholarship fund at Campbellsville University and may be made at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY.
