Poetry by Robert Stone: Disinfatuation, a sonnet

- a sonnet for my many counselors
Look not in dictionaries for this word
nor search in life for such a happening.
Why would there be a word for thing absurd?
Why song redeeming none will learn to sing?

Investigate the mysteries of flesh
but seek in vain the cause of trembling pulse.
Why should uncertain hope the mind enmesh?
Why images unreal the nerves convulse?

Look not for consolation in the soul
nor wander wayward wanting quick relief.
Why must desire resist required control?
Why visions be secured from brazen thief?

No disinfatuation path exists
and heart not soothed, on wants not smoothed, insists.

- Robert Stone, 17 March 2013
