Wants better lighting on Bypass - for additional safety Comments re article 58175 Flashing yellow arrow traffic display to be installed William Reed writes: That's great that the KY Transportation Department recognizes our need for some additional safety devices about town. But, when are they ever going to do something about lighting along our Veterans By-pass at their various intersections. After dark, it's very dangerous to make a left turn onto the by-pass off KY 61 at the red light. Several times attempting to make that turn, I've found myself in the left turning lane there at the red light because it's pitch black and you can't see. Fortunately there's not been someone approaching that left turn lane. I've heard from many others who have done the same thing and it's high time that the state or whoever has to pay for the lights, put some out there. You drive down the Parkway from Bowling Green to Somerset and it's lit up like a Christmas tree at every exit. Don't we deserve the same measure of safety. Just my opinion. -William ReedWilliam Reed - Thanks. Great ideas. I hope there will be others thinking the same way today. (I'm taking a little time to be thankful to the Transportation Cabinet for this innovation. I think it will work to solve a big part of the problems - or all. And I'm still doing a Happy Dance for the bridge widening on KY 55 south - woke up thanking Sammy Baker for his persistence in keeping the matter in the forefront and bend a knee to whatever omnipotent Shot Caller and/or All Powerful Contractor who made that a reality. I do applaud you for your vision - for looking ahead. BR> In fact, I have to thank and praise you for kicking off a list of badly needed changes we'll need to make travel safer here. Wouldn't it be great to think the next 20 years would be devoid of a road fatality in KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, Territory? Hope others will comment on your suggestion as well as to add to others to the list. Many have been thinking the most important infrastructure projects needed for Adair County, now Heartland Parkway, the Edmonton, KY US 68/Louie B Nunn interchange, the Columbia Eastern Bypass, and the Keen Wilson Russell Creek Bridge, and the tunnel under the LBN for Industrial Drive, Ralph Roy Waggener's Oak Street Bypass and the completion of TN 52 at Celina, Tennessee, but other projects might be even more important, and more readily doable. - EW This story was posted on 2013-03-13 08:24:15
