Scenic Marion County Grove House has Adair Connection

By Patty Browning Martin

I was delighted to see this picture of our homeplace! My parents owned it from 1957-1978. We moved there the summer that I was six years old in 1958.

It may be of interest to know that my father was born in Milltown, KY on July 26, 1921. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. James Chapman (Mary Dohoney) Browning and moved to Marion County about 1927. Two of his brothers who remained in Columbia were Frank Browning (whose farm is now the Haven Hill Cemetery) and his brother Billy Browning, whose wife Gertrude, still lives in Columbia.

The official name of the house in Lebanon is Grove House, built around 1850, by a sherriff named Kirk. My mother did the research on it when we lived there and Gov. Wendell Ford deemed it a Kentucky Landmark home. (See the Lebanon Enterprise Mar. 3, 1972 for an article about the history.)

Sincere thanks to the lady that took the picture and shared it.
