1) Winfrey House Hotel and 2) Lindsey Writes

By Linda Waggener

Weekend reading on CM has been inspiring. The two stories ( that moved me the most were:
  1. The Winfrey House Hotel & an Epidemic, 1873 in Columbia, KY about a horrible time in Adair County history where people of the day documented what was happening so those who came after could benefit from the heart breaking details.
  2. LWC Community kicks off 5-year writing program. The hopeful story about new emphasis on writing at Lindsey Wilson College
The story about the epidemic was a chilling, timely reminder of the vital necessity of healthy everyday habits.

The Lindsey Wilson College mission to support training in the art of writing has the potential to make a major difference in the quality of communications for all time to come. I'm grateful.

Retired teacher and mentor the late Mary Marshall Paul Todd believed in the importance of documenting the events of the day.

Every time I sent her a note, she'd tell me to write more. Once she got impatient with me and said, "I don't care if you have no typewriter, write on a tablet, if you don't have a tablet come over here and I'll give you one. You. Must. Write. MORE."

She's probably up there in heaven smiling at both the historian and the public relations writer who've shared their words this weekend. Marshall's probably also discussing UK basketball action with her dear friend Bobbie Jeffries and cheering on President Obama. - LInda Waggener
