25 Years of Educational Outreach: WKU at Glasgow, KY Event will celebrate quarter century presence of Western Kentucky University in Glasgow, KY By John W. Roberts, M.A.E. News from Western Kentucky University, Glasgow, KY GLASGOW, KY - When WKU-Glasgow reopened its doors in 1988, 115 years had passed since A.W. Mell opened the Glasgow Normal School that ultimately became Western Kentucky University. On February 7, 2013, WKU-Glasgow 500 Hilltopper Way, Glasgow, KY, will host a celebration from 10amCT to 12pm noonCT to commemorate the 25th anniversary of WKU-Glasgow. The event will begin with a reception and refreshments, followed by a program. The event is open to the public. Speakers will include Western Kentucky University President Gary Ransdell; WKU-Glasgow Director Dr. Sally Ray; Former Dean, Regional Campuses, Dr. Elmer Gray; Former Mayor of Glasgow Robert Lessenberry; WKU-Glasgow Alumna Callie Christian; WKU-Glasgow Alumnus James Estes; and WKU-Glasgow Assistant Director Bill Walter. The event will also feature WKU-Barren County High School student Bailey Birge as she leads all guests and visitors in singing "College Heights." Big Red will make an appearance. The festivities will end with tours of the campus. "For 25 years, WKU-Glasgow has been faithful in providing educational access and opportunity to communities in southern Kentucky," said John Roberts, Coordinator, Communications and Student Recruitment. "The 25th anniversary celebrations that will happen throughout 2013 will give everyone an opportunity to reflect on WKU-Glasgow's past, present and future." February 7 will be the kickoff event in a series of anniversary celebrations. The next event will be at 7:30amCT, April 16, 2013, at the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Breakfast, at the Chamber building, 118 E. Public Square, Glasgow, KY. - John W.
