COLUMBIA, KY - More than two dozen award-winning quilts by a Southcentral Kentucky resident are on display through February 28, 2013 in the Lindsey Wilson College Lucretia C. Begley Art Gallery.

A total of 28 quilts by Adair County resident Denise Stewart of Dunnville are on display in the liberal arts college's art gallery.

Stewart's quilts have won scores of awards in county and state fair competitions. Her most recent quilt, Columbia, won best of show in the 2012 Kentucky Bluegrass Quilt Show.

Stewart belongs to local quilting guilds, and she has been involved with Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society and Kentucky Extension Homemakers association since she moved to Kentucky in 1990.

Stewart began quilting in 1986, and she has taught quilting classes since 1989. She teaches regularly at local quilting venues, including Runaway Quilters Retreat near Owensboro, KY, and Jabez Quilt Seminar near Jabez, KY, on Lake Cumberland.

"One thing that strikes me about her work is the skill and the craft about how they are made - there is no doubt that these are quality produced," said LWC Professor of Art Tim Smith, who is curator of the Begley Gallery. "The colors and patterns break away from the traditions of quilting. Her personality and ideas comes through the quilting. We are really fortunate to have an opportunity to show her work."

"Quilts," by Denise Stewart, will be on display through February 28, 2013, in the Lindsey Wilson College Lucretia C. Begley Art Gallery in the W.W. Slider Humanities Center, 155 Blue Raider Drive. Gallery hours are 8am-4pmCT Monday-Friday and by special appointment. For more information, contact Tim Smith at smitht@lindsey.edu or 270-384-8079.
