Freezing rain cancels schools in Adair Co., KY, many others Updates posted as received in CM EVENTS 'It's like trying to drive on an ice rink out here' - LARRY SMITH Follow CM's complete list of Closings, Cancellations and Weather Related Schedule Changes in CM Events. Schools also canceled in Campbellsville Independent, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties By Ed Waggener with Larry Smith News Bulletins from ColumbiaMagazine.com, FM 92.7 the WAVE, FM 99.9 The Big Dawg COLUMBIA, KY - (Friday, January 25, 2013) Freezing rain with patchy black ice in the area is resulting in a number of school closings in the CM primary coverage area. Superintendent Alan Reed called very early this morning to add Adair County School District to the list. "There's freezing rain moving in from the west," he said. "We aren't going to mess with ice." The school closing is the first of the 2012-13 school year, he added. Larry Smith called to announce that Marion, Casey, and Green Counties are closed. From KY 55 between Campbellsville and Columbia, at 4:51amCT, he reported that driving is treacherous. "It's the worst driving situation I've ever seen - it's like driving on an ice rink," he said. Making it worse, he said, is that it is patchy, urging everyone who is on the road this morning to use extra precautions. Traffic is moving at a crawl. On country roads cars are moving as slowly as 5 mph. On KY 80 east, it's been moving at up to 30 mph, Smith reports. He warned even those who are staying home to be especially careful. "Steps, sidewalks, and especially ramps for handicapped are downright dangerous," he said. No word yet on school go/no go for Cumberland County, Campbellsville Independent, or Metcalfe County, but we expect to hear from them and will let everyone know on CM and on the air with Larry Smith, 92.7 The Wave.
