Martha Burris Martin, Columbia, KY (1931-2013)

She was a woman of seemingly boundless energy who saw no limits for the community she and her distinguished family loved and have personified as much as any other. She was a member of the Adair Heritage Association, the Adair County Democratic Women's Club and the Executive committee of the Adair County Democrat Party. She was member of Columbia Christian Church, serving on the Missions Committee for many years. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a retired Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor

Martha Burris Martin, 81, of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at her residence.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 25, 2013 at 1pmCT/2pmET, at Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be 1pmCT/2pmET, Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Columbia Christian Church.



Casket Bearers: Richard L. Walker, Billy Walker, Bob Barnes, Dicky Walker, Harry Craycroft, Richard Martin, Steve Martin, and Gene Grasham.

Honorary: Elders of Columbia Christian Church.

Martha Burris Martin, Columbia, KY (1931-2013)

She was born Tuesday, March 3, 1931, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Menden and Avis Tupman Barnes. She died Tuesday, January 24, 2013, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

She was member of Columbia Christian Church, serving on the Missions Committee for many years. She was a member of the Adair Heritage Association, the Adair County Democratic Women's Club and the Executive committee of the Adair County Democrat Party. She was a proud member of the American Jersey Association. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a retired Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor.

She was married to James Henry Burris, Jr., for 35 years, before his death in 1981 and he was the father of her children, Ben Burris and Rebecca Burris Nash and her children and grandchild, Mamie Nash, Joe Nash and Laila Nash.

In April 1993, Martha married Bro. Raymond Martin and embraced his children, Becky Hamm, Barbara (Gene) Grasham, Richard (Patty) Martin, Steve (Ann) Martin, David (Cathy) Martin and his 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Barbara) Barnes of Columbia, KY.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Walker.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to either Columbia Christian Church, Homeplace on Green River or Lindsey Wilson College.
