Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com The Adair County Indians four game winning steak came to an end in a heartbreaking 40-38 overtime loss to Taylor County, last night, Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at John Burr Memorial Gymnasium. The loss by Adair gives Adair, Taylor, and Marion identical 3-2 records. All three teams still have a shot at the number one seed in the district. Adair could still get the top seed with a win over Campeellsville and a Taylor County loss to Marion County. A Marion win and a loss by Adair to Campbellsville gives the Knights the top seed. A win by Taylor over Marion gives the Cardinals the top seed. Points were hard to come by as both teams played well on the defensive end. Adair led 16-11 after the first period but Taylor led 22-20 at halftime. The Indians led 31-29 after the third period but the score was knotted 36-36 at the end of regulation. Adair scored first in overtime to take a 38-36 lead but Taylor scored the last four points of overtime. Quinton Goodin\'s driving runner with 2.7 seconds to play proved to be the difference. The Indians were plagued all night with poor shooting connecting on 16 of 44 field goal tries and 2 of 10 free throws. Taylor connected on 13 of 38 field goal tries and 10 of 17 free throws. Both teams connected on four treys. The Cards shot 18 the Indians 14. Adair out rebounded the larger Cardinals 33-28. Chance Melton led Adair with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring were Matt Fudge 7, Kel Stotts 7, Jayden Willis 5, Marshall Shelley 3, Ty Bennett 3, and Jake Hixson 2. Also seeing action were Tanner Pooler, Zach Hutchison, and Colton Back.
