Fatal Crash, Meade Co., KY involves 3 vehicles, one an ambulance Driver of 2008 Pontiac pronounced at scene after, according to police report, failing to stop at intersection and was struck by a Meade County Ambulance, which had swerved to avoid Pontiac, in incident involving three vehicles. 10 month old in deceased's car taken to Kosair. Driver and one occupant of ambulance taken to UL Hospital with serious injuries. Investigation is ongoing by Post 4 reconstructionist Tpr. Terry Whittaker Location: Flaherty is approximately 75 miles NW of Columbia, KY (Google Map) By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY FLAHERTY, KY - On Thursday, January 10, 2013 at approximately 6:37pmET, Meade County Dispatch received a call of an injury crash at the intersection of KY 313 and KY 333 in Meade County. It was later reported as a fatality and Meade County Deputies requested that a State Police Reconstructionist respond to the scene. Our investigation revealed that a silver 2008 Pontiac driven by 27-year-old Sarah S. Hottell of Brandenburg was eastbound on KY 333 and was approaching the intersection of KY 313. A Meade County Ambulance (2009 Ford E-350) driven by 49-year-old Todd Flory of Vine Grove was southbound on KY 313 and was approaching the intersection of KY 333. Also in the ambulance was EMT Michael Wise, 48, from Payneville. A black Volkswagen driven by 47-year-old Maria P. Williams of Brandenburg was northbound on KY 313 and was approaching the intersection of KY 333. Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated that Mrs. Hottell failed to stop at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection at KY 313. The ambulance swerved to avoid the Pontiac but was unable to do so. It struck the Pontiac in the driver's side front. The Ambulance left the roadway and overturned on the southbound side of the intersection ejecting both occupants. At some point during the collision the Volkswagen was struck by one of the other vehicles. Further investigation during daylight hours will help determine which one. The Pontiac also left the roadway on the south side and came to final rest in the ditch. Mrs. Hottell was pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-month old infant in the Hottell vehicle was properly restrained in a car seat but was transported to Kosair's in Louisville. The infant appears to have minor non-life threatening injuries. Mrs. Williams was treated and released at Hardin Memorial Hospital. Wise and Flory were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries.
