Special ColumbiaMagazine.com sports story News of Adair County High School Athletics The Adair County Indians four game winning streak came to an end last night, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, when they fell to Larue County 48-41 at home in Columbia, KY. The Indians record dropped to 10-6 while the Hawks improved to 9-5. Adair County struggled all night shooting and rebounding. Adair connected on only 17 of 44 field goal tries and one of six free throws. The Indians shot a season high 25 three pointers and connected on only six. Larue connected on 19 of 44 from the field, 2 of 14 from the three and 8 of 15 from the line. The Hawks out rebounded the smaller Indians 36-25. "When you shoot as poorly as we did and rebound as poorly as we did you just don't have a very good chance to come out on top. Maybe it was partly due to us playing the night before but we just couldn't get the ball to go in and couldn't get a big defensive stop when we really needed one," said Coach Mark Fudge. After falling behind in the first period the Indians battled back to tie the score 23-23 at halftime. The game remained close throughout the second half but with Adair trailing 41-39 with 4:30 remaining the Hawks went on a 7-2 run to close out the contest. Adair was led in scoring and rebounding by Chance Melton on seven for nine shooting and 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring were Matt Fudge 8, Ty Bennett 6, Kel Stotts 5, Zach Hutchison 5, and Jake Hixson 2. Jayden Willis, Tanner Pooler, and Marshall Shelley also saw action. Fudge added six assists and three steals.
