Mr. Otha Lee VanArsdale, Green Co., KY, (1914-2013)

He was a retired farmer, a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church was his church home. In his early years he had the privilege of serving as Deacon at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church for 30 years, and South Greensburg Baptist Church for 10 years. He was a long time member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM. Special love for his family, dear friends, and the great outdoors gave him much joy throughout his 98 years.

Mr. Otha Lee VanArsdale, 98, of Franklin, Kentucky, formerly of Green County, departed this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Greenwood Nursing and Rehab in Bowling Green, KY.

The funeral services for Mr. Otha Lee VanArsdale will be conducted at 1pmCT/2pmET, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Neagle Cemetery. Joseph Wilcoxson will be officiating. Visitation is requested after 10:30amCT/11:30amET, Saturday until time of the funeral service.

Mr. Otha Lee VanArsdale, was the son of the late Robert Lee VanArsdale and Roye Taylor VanArsdale. He was born on Thursday July 9, 1914 in Green County, Kentucky, and departed this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Bowling Green, Warren County, KY. . He was 98 years, 4 months, and 23 days of age.

He was a retired farmer, a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church was his church home. In his early years he had the privilege of serving as Deacon at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church for 30 years, and South Greensburg Baptist Church for 10 years. He was a long time member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM. Special love for his family, dear friends, and the great outdoors gave him much joy throughout his 98 years.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Laverne Blakeman VanArsdale having united in marriage on February 7, 1940. Also preceded were five brothers and four sisters: Eugene VanArsdale, Luther VanArsdale, Carl VanArsdale, Cecil VanArsdale, Lester VanArsdale, Edna VanArsdale, Ollie Neagle, Cecilia Morgan, and an infant sister, Georgia VanArsdale.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son and daughter in law: Dennye and Elizabeth VanArsdale of Bowling Green, KY

  • Three grandchildren and their spouses: Dr. Nancy V. and Robb Morris of London, KY; Susan and Gregory Jackson of Bowling Green, KY; and Jeff and Melissa VanArsdale of Louisville, KY

  • Four great grandchildren: Taylor Morris, Alexandra Morris both of London, KY; Hannah Jackson of Bowling Green, KY; and Wyatt VanArsdale of Louisville, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews, many loyal friends

  • And special caregiver: Nancy Combow of Franklin, KY
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, the Neagle Cemetery, or the American Cancer Society, which can be made at the funeral home.

The Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main Street, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
