KSP increasing patrols during New Years Eve Holiday Last year, six people were killed on Kentucky Highways during New Year's Weekend. State Police cruisers will be out in force. KSP will utilize safety checkpoints, roving patrols, and targeted enforcement to remove drunk drivers from the highways. By Tpr. Michael Webb, Public Affairs Branch Kentucky State Police, Frankfort Kentucky HQ FRANKFORT, KY - The Kentucky State Police, in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, will be out in full force during the New Years Eve holiday. The official holiday enforcement period began Friday, December 28, 2012 at 6pmCT/ET and will continue through Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 11:59pmCT/ET. Last year, traffic crashes across Kentucky claimed the lives of six people during the New Years Eve holiday period. There were 1,314 crashes reported for that time frame and 63 of those involved alcohol. Trooper Michael Webb, spokesperson for KSP, advised that the agency will utilize every resource possible to crack down on drunk drivers. "We plan to use safety checkpoints, roving patrols and targeted enforcement details to remove drunk drivers from Kentucky roadways," says Webb. "When a person chooses to drive while intoxicated, they risk the safety and well being of others. Make no mistake, if you are caught driving impaired, you will go to jail." Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible. This story was posted on 2012-12-29 04:21:47
