She was the matriarch of a respected Casey County, KY, family. She was the widow of Ralph Archibald Thomas. She leaves 36 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ

Violet R. Thomas passed away Sunday December 23, 2012 at her home in Casey County, KY. She was 85.

Funeral services are 12pm noon CT/1pmET, Thursday December 27, 2012 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Gary Russell and Steve Russell officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Contown Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 9amCT/10amET, until funeral service.


Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Violet R. Thomas, Casey County, KY (1927-2012)

She was born March 18, 1927 in Casey County, KY. She was the daughter of the late John Welby and Lucy Ann Murphy Russell. She died Sunday, December 23, 2012, in Casey County, KY, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 5 days.

She was a homemaker and member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.

She was the widow of Ralph Archibald Thomas, who passed away January 27, 1990.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son: Archie Frank (Cleda) Thomas of Liberty, KY

  • Two daughters: Lily Ann (Larry) Porter of Liberty, KY; and Betty Thomas of Bardstown, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Twenty four great grandchildren

  • One great great grandchild

  • A brother: John C. Russell of Paris, TN
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY. Send a condolence to the family of Violet Thomas
