Will R. (Sonny) Robert Fights, Casey Co., KY (1922-2012)

He was a native of Casey County and a resident of Ohio at the time of his death. His marriage to Rethel Jeanotta Russell enduring 62 years until her death in 2008. He leaves 19 direct living descendants. He was an accountant for the Fisher Body Company. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army with tours in Ireland and Northern Africa. Returning home in 1944 with an Honorable Discharge, he attended Lindsey Wilson Junior College earning an Associate of Arts degree and Eastern Kentucky University, earning a B.S. in Education.

Will "Sonny" Fights passed away Thursday November 29, 2012 at his home in Fairfield , Ohio. He was 90.

Funeral services are at 12pm noon ET/11amCT, Wednesday December 5, 2012 at McKinney Brown Funeral, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Dwight Bastin officiating. Burial is at Antioch Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Funeral Squad. Visitation is Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 10amET/9amCT, until funeral service.



Will R. "Sonny" Robert Fights, Casey Co., KY (1922-2012)

Born Wednesday, April 19, 1922 in Casey County, KY, he was the son of the late James Allen and Edna Carr Fights. He died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in Fairfield, Butler County, Ohio, at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 10 days.

He was an accountant for the Fisher Body Company. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army with tours in Ireland and Northern Africa. Returning home in 1944 with an Honorable Discharge, he attended Lindsey Wilson Junior College earning an Associate of Arts degree and Eastern Kentucky University, earning a B.S. in Education.

On January 5, 1946 , he was united in marriage to Rethel Jeanotta Russell, a union lasting 62 years until her death August 11, 2008.

Survivors include the following:
  • Two sons: James (Jerri) Fights of Springfield Township, Ohio; and Will Jr. (Kimberly) ) Fights of Hamilton, Ohio

  • Daughters: Mearieia (Gary) Martin of Ohio, and Leisa (Michael) Dennehy of Chapel Hill, NC

  • Ten grandchildren

  • Five great-grandchildren

  • Two brothers: James Garth Fights and Rodney Paul Fights

  • Three sisters: Delores Edwards, Margaret King, and Nadine Fights
In addition to his parents and wife , he was also preceded in death by five sisters, Audrey Long, Theda Rothwell, Geneva Childers, Lorene Franklin, Leitha Sutherland and Alma Montgomery.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY.
