LWC Women's Soccer rolls into NAIA National semi-finals Blue Raider women win 3-0 over Embry-Riddle, before crowd of 76 in Orange Beach, AL Next Lindsey Wilson Women's Soccer in NAIA National Championship Semi-finals At Friday, November 30, 2012, at 3:30pmCT, Orange Beach Sportsplex, 4389 Pub Works Road, Orange Beach, AL By Chris Wells News from Lindsey Wilson College ORANGE BEACH, AL - The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team exploded for three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Embry-Riddle (Daytona Beach, FL) Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in the NAIA National Championships' quarterfinals at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The Blue Raiders advance to Friday's national semifinals against the winner of third-seeded Vanguard (Costa Mesa, CA) and sixth-seeded Spring Arbor (Spring Arbor, MI). Vanguard and Spring Arbor play later Wednesday, November 28, 2012. No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson (18-4-1) dominated the match, especially in the opening 45 minutes. By the first half's end, the Blue Raiders owned a 3-0 lead, a 15-0 shots advantage and a 12-1 corner kicks lead. No.7-seed Embry-Riddle (17-6) fought off the Blue Raider attack -- 10 shots -- for the first 15 minutes of the match. Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Lauren Gallant stopped four shots during the opening minutes to keep the match scoreless. Gallant finished allowing all three goals while collecting six saves. Lindsey Wilson's Renee Hurd finally broke through in the 28th minute for the Blue Raiders as she dribbled down the left flank before crossing over to the top of the D and blasting a shot past Gallant for the 1-0 lead. Hurd's goal was her fourth of the year, including her third game-winner this season. It didn't take long for the Blue Raiders to add to their lead as Katarina Simic headed in the second goal of the day off Natasha Gensetter's assist in the 31st minute. Simic found the back of the net for the fourth time this season as she won the aerial battle deep inside the penalty box to give Lindsey Wilson the 2-0 lead. A little more than five minutes later, Mia Persson scored her 71st career goal and her fourth of this tournament to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead. Elizabet Madjarac set up the goal with a feed near the top of the 18 and Persson hit a rocket into the far upper 90 for her team-leading 30th goal of the season. Lindsey Wilson utilized the stout wind in the first 45 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the break. In the second frame, Embry-Riddle - who scored six goals in yesterday's win over Robert Morris (IL) did its best to put pressure on the Lindsey Wilson defense and goalkeeper Josephine Frigge. The Eagles produced six shots in the second half but only one managed to find the target - a Frigge save. Late in the match, the Eagles failed on their best chance of the match to score as Martine Olsen hit the crossbar off a free kick. The Lindsey Wilson defense cleared the near-goal to preserve the clean sheet - its third of the national tournament in as many matches. The Blue Raiders finished the match with a 17-6 shot advantage, including 9-1 in shots on-goal. Frigge recorded her fourth shutout of the season with the one save. Lindsey Wilson advances to its first national semifinal since the 2008 season. The Blue Raiders will meet a familiar foe regardless of the winner of the Vanguard-Spring Arbor game. Lindsey Wilson defeated Vanguard 2-1 on September 15, 2012, in Cleveland, TN. while tying Spring Arbor 1-1 to open the season on Aug. 25 at home.
