Fireman rescued after collapsing carport roof traps him Firefighter, not named in report, treated and released at Taylor Regional Hospital. Automobile parked in carport destroyed By Anne Sanders From Taylor County Fire Department A Taylor County Fireman was rescued after being trapped by a collapsing carport roof in Saturday afternoon fire in Campbellsville, KY, which heavily damaged the residence and destroyed a car parked in the front yard. The firefighter was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital for treatment and was subsequently released. Taylor County firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 507 Fern Drive, Campbellsville, KY, in the Holly Brook Subdivision at 2:36pmET, Saturday, November 24, 2012, at property owned by Rober Ship. Upon arrival firefighters found a heavy volume of fire at the rear of the structure near the car port extending to the interior portions of the residence. Firefighters attacked the fire from the rear while an additional crew made an interior attack. Approximately 5-7 minutes into the attack the roof over the car port collapsed onto firefighters trapping one firefighter. The firefighter was freed by other units within 4- 5 minutes and was able to walk to the stretcher where EMS personnel treated and transported to Taylor Regional Hospital. The firefighter was treated and released with only minor injuries to his hip, knee and ankle. Three additional alarms were dispatchedduring the incident requesting additional personnel and apparatus. The owner stated he was inside the residence and unaware of the fire until he was alerted by neighbors at which time he was able to escape the residence without injury. Upon investigation the fire appears to have started near the rear deck and spread to the structure from the outside. One vehicle that was parked in the car port was destroyed. There were 22 personnel and 5 apparatus on the scene. - Anne Sanders This story was posted on 2012-11-27 04:22:21
