Martha Allen Shelton, Green Co., KY (1939-2012)

She was a member of a very large, highly regarded family. Her marriage to Ellis W. Shelton endured over 51 years. She leaves six direct living descendants. Mrs. Shelton has made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. She had worked for Fruit of the Loom as a Floor Lady and for Central Furniture. She was also a member of the Eastern Star

Martha Allen Shelton of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Otha Lee Allen and Ina May Hancock Allen, was born on Saturday, October 21, 1939 in Taylor County and departed this life Friday, November 2, 2012 at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was 73 years and 12 days of age.

The funeral service for Mrs. Martha Allen Shelton will be conducted at 1pmCT, Monday, November 5, 2012, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 South Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 3878 Greensburg Road, Columbia, KY. Bro. Blake Jessie and Bro. Carlos Compton will be officiating. Visitation was requested 3pm-9pmCT Sunday and after 7amCT, Monday, November 5, 2012, until time of the funeral service.

Martha Allen Shelton was the daughter of the late Otha Lee Allen and Ina May Hancock Allen. She was born on Saturday, October 21, 1939 in Taylor County, KY, and departed this life Friday, November 2, 2012 in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. She was 73 years and 12 days of age.

Mrs. Shelton has made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. She had worked for Fruit of the Loom as a Floor Lady and for Central Furniture. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Mr. Ellis W. Shelton, having united in marriage on October 21, 1961, and the following:
  • Two daughters and sons in law: Alicia and David Taylor and Allison and Tom Griffiths all of Greensburg, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Alex Taylor and wife Kaitlyn of Bowling Green, KY; Abbey Griffiths, Elliott Taylor and Hallie Griffiths all of Greensburg, KY

  • Twelve brothers and sisters and their spouses: Barbara and Kenneth Harris of Greensburg, KY; Vernon Allen and GenRose, Davetta and Wayne Buckner, Glenda and David Shreve, Lucille Coyle, Keith and Donna Allen, Gloria and Bobby Cave, Carolyn and John Gaines, Evelyn and Richard Jeter all of Campbellsville, KY; Sharon and Ronnie Gregory of Louisville, KY; Joyce and Robert Dowell of LaGrange KY; and Otha "Brother" and Susan Allen of Lebanon, KY

  • Her brother in law: Adrien Shelton of Franklin, KY

  • And many nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
  • Mrs. Shelton was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Emma Allison Griffiths who passed away on July 26, 1991.

    Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund or the American Cancer Society, which can be made at the funeral home.
