Campbellsville Apparel laying off 36 individuals today

Reduction comes as a result of reduced Defense Department spending
Most of the employees are from Taylor County, but other counties, including Adair, are affected. - LARRY SMITH

Campbellsville Apparel has permanently laid off 36 individuals as of Monday, October 29, 2012. This layoff comes after last week receiving final orders for the next six months and projections for 2013 from the Defense Logistics Agency. Most of the employees in the tee shirt area have been working part time by rotating layoffs since the end of May.

After receiving final word regarding production, the Company had no choice other than to make these adjustments. The employees of Campbellsville Apparel have been very loyal and very patient waiting to hear what their work schedule would be. Also, 12 individuals decided to retire. The demand for tee shirts and briefs has decreased from the Defense Logistics Agency due to current Administration reductions in the Defense budget. The Company will offer severance pay to those employees leaving. This will leave a workforce of 109 individuals remaining at Campbellsville Apparel working on five current contracts. - Chris Reynolds, Campbellsville Apparel Company
