Case possibly connected to close point in time armed auto theft. Suspect still at large.

By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Affairs Officer
Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY

VINE GROVE, KY - On Saturday, October 27, 2012 at approximately 8:12amET, Post 4 received a call of shots fired near the 16000 block of Rineyville-Big Springs Road in the Big Springs community of Hardin County. Near the same time and location, Post 4 received a call from a man stating that an armed man came to his door, pointed a gun in his face and demanded the keys to his car. The man complied and the suspect fled.

Our preliminary investigation revealed that the shots fired came from Carolyn's Corner Store in Big Springs. The suspect entered the store in an attempt to rob the it. A struggle ensued with the employee over the weapon that the suspect produced. The employee was subsequently shot in the arm and the suspect fled the scene. The employee was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital where he was treated and transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in serious but stable condition. As of the time of this release the suspect is still at large. He is described as a white male wearing dark clothing with a white hoodie. He may have fled in a stolen dark blue 1998 Buick LeSabre in an unknown direction. Although it is likely, it is not certain if the two incidents are related. Our investigation is ongoing.
