Columbia Police Department sends tips for safe Halloween

Hours for observance this year are 5pm-8pmCT, Wed, Oct. 31, 2012

The Columbia Police Department wishes to remind everyone that Halloween will be observed in Columbia on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, from the hours of 5pm- 8pmCT.

Motorists are reminded to take extra precaution at this time and observe for pedestrians.

Parents should make sure younger children are accompanied by an adult or older sibling.

Children should carry a flashlight, glow stick or have reflective clothing or tape. Instruct your child to only approach homes that are well lit both inside and outside, and not enter a strange house or car.

Make sure your children are able to see, and breathe properly when using masks and can walk in their costume without tripping. Talk with your children about strangers, and inspect your child's candy before they eat it. Discard any unwrapped or suspicious looking treats.

If your child gets sick, contact your doctor or the hospital emergency room immediately and save all wrappers. - Columbia, KY, Police Department, Jason Cross, Chief
