State Associate Commissioner of Education Desai commends Adair Schools In letter lauding leadership of Superintendent Alan W. Reed, Mr. Desai commends the actions of Local Planning Committee, the Board of Education, and Mr. Reed for proactive efforts to reconfigure school facilities, and, especially for taking control of own destiny By Ed Waggener The reconfiguration of Adair County Schools recommended by the Local Planning Board and Superintendent Alan W. Reed and approved by the Adair County Board of Education is drawing high praise in high places. Associate Commissioner Hiren Desai of the Kentucky Department of Education wrote to Superintendent Reed saying, "I wanted to compliment you on your proactive efforts to reconfigure the school facilities in your district. I saw the news article in the KSBA new feed and the following excerpt resonates with me: In short we are taking control of our own destiny, instead of waiting for some government bailout or capital outlay (building) funds that are likely to be years out of there, if at all," Reed said. "The actions of the LPC and the BOE are both fiscally and educationally sound. Taxpayers will also appreciate our efforts to streamline.Commissioner Desai concluded in his letter, "Thank you for the great leadership you're providing in being fiscally responsible and forward thinking. The Local Planning Committee was chaired by Terry Partin, and was led, also, by David Herbst and Darrell Overstreet; Mike Harris from the Board of Education, and Sue Stivers of the Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority, and principals of the schools, Troy Young, Alma Rich, Jane Branham, Patty Jones, and Robbie Harmon, and local leaders and parents. The approving board included Chairman Floyd Burton (Div 4), and Members Marsha Walker (Div 2) and Mike Harris (Div 5). Division 1 is vacant since the resignation of Rebecca Turner. And Joseph Payne (Div 4), was not present at the vote at the end of the meeting. This story was posted on 2012-10-11 06:18:59
