LWC Volleyball loses to Campbellsville 3-0 at home By Dan White Sports News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Courtney Doyle had 12 kills and Kailey Moorhead sent back four blocks, but it was not enough for Lindsey Wilson College as it fell to Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) on Tuesday at Biggers Sports Center. It was a defensive struggle for the Blue Raiders as Kellie Ranney's six digs were the most on the team. The Tigers finished hitting .386 compared to .293 for Lindsey Wilson as Andrea Taylor was limited to 30 assists, with the majority heading Doyle's way. After Doyle's 12 kills, the next most on the team was Sarah Anderson with eight and Moorhead finding seven. The Blue Raiders also tallied just one service ace coming from Doyle, while the Tigers finished with three. Haley Bechtel had a big performance for Campbellsville, tallying a team-high 10 kills, four digs and three blocks. The setting combo of Kira Stewart and Jackie Schwieger finished with 22 and 18 assists, respectively. Rinata Aisena was hard to beat near the net, finishing with four blocks. Lindsey Wilson had not lost a set at home through five matches, but on Tuesday night, the Campbellsville attack was just too strong. The Tiger win avenged a 3-2 loss they suffered to the Blue Raiders early in the season. The Tigers' offense was hitting on all cylinders at the start of the match, finishing the first set with a .500 hitting percentage. The hitting cooled to .273 in the third set, but it was still much better than Lindsey Wilson with a .071. There were chances for the Blue Raiders to keep in the match during the first two sets. They led by three at 10-7 in the first and later tied it at 17-17. But the Tigers went on a 3-0 run and never let Lindsey Wilson back in it. Similarly, the Blue Raiders went up by four in the second set at 7-3 on a Moorhead kill, but the early success didn't hold up. The Tigers went ahead by as many as six points at 21-15 before taking the 2-0 match lead on a kill by Giselle Hernandez. Lindsey Wilson struggled in the third set, allowing itself to trail by a match-high 10 points at 21-11. There was a late rally to get within five at 22-17, but Campbellsville took care of business down the stretch. - Dan White This story was posted on 2012-10-10 07:30:25
