Lure Lodge 50th Anniversary, brings back memories of the big tip

Our heroine was a new waitress at the restaurant trying so hard to please the table of eight fishermen. There was a near disaster - the worst waitressing day of her life, but there's more to the story - a true one.

By Von Price

Lake Cumberland Lure Lodge. What a beautiful place. This was my first public job. I was a waitress. Worked with some wonderful people like Brenda Loy, Johnny Flannigan, Sid McBeath, and many others that my mind has failed to remember. Funny story about one day as I was waiting on a table of 8 fishermen who were there for a tournament.

They all had hooded sweat shirts on because it was cold. I was passing the biscuits around and the basket got caught on one of the sweat shirts. It caused all of the biscuits to spill into the hood. The man setting next to him just got up and said, "Hold the basket," and he dumped the biscuits right back into the basket.

And that day I made the biggest tip ever. I was young and inexperienced at the job. But they were such gentleman that it didn't matter to them. That was the worst day of my waitress experience. But it got a big laugh from everyone and needless to say, also from my co-workers. True story. --Von Price
